Marrowmatic

INTENDED USE

Preparation of bone marrow aspirates
(defrustulation, disaggregation, micro- and macro-clot rupture for flow cytometric analysis o r other analyses requiring cell suspensions (e.g., cytogenetics, cell culture).

Preparation of fine-needle aspirates, core
biopsies, or endoscopic "grab” biopsies (defrustulation and disaggregation) for flow cytometric analysis o r other analyses requiring cell suspensions (e.g., cytogenetics, cell culture).

INNOVATIVE FEATURES

Operator safety. MarrowMatic performs the preparation procedures for bone marrow aspirates, core biopsies, and fine-needle aspirates for flow cytometric analysis (defrustulation, disaggregation, and filtration) fully automatically, without requiring sample manipulation with needles, scalpels, o r potentially dangerous devices.

Time savings. Sample preparation takes about a minute, regardless o f the intrinsic quality o f the sample (presence of fragments, aggregates, clots, or hyperviscosity).
• Standardization o f results. The sample preparation method i s unique and produces a uniform product regardless of the treatment method.

Optimization of cell recovery. MarrowMatic ensures optimal and standardized cell recovery without reducing cell viability.

Prevention of technical problems o n subsequent analytical instruments (sample treatment with MarrowMatic reduces the formation of cell aggregates, which can cause
flow cytometry problems).

Maintenance of sterility where required. MarrowMatic racks are available individually and sterile-packaged to also allow for cytogenetic investigations and/or cell culture setup.

HOW IT WORKS | 3 steps

Automated Procedure in about 1 minute

Select the program

Choose the appropriate program: Bone Marrow Aspiration or Other Sampling (FNA / Core Biopsy / Endoscopic “Grab” Biopsy).

1

Load the sample

Place the mother tube (A) containing the sample in the rack and insert the special needle into the tube.

2

Start the procedure

Insert the rack into the MarrowMatic and start the chosen procedure.

3

Retrieve the sample

At the end of the procedure (about 1 minute), remove the rack and retrieve the daughter tube (B) with the de-stemmed and filtered sample. A cap for the daughter tube is included.

4

Dispose safely

Dispose of the used rack in the appropriate containers provided by the laboratory for sharps and needles.

Comparison among MarrowMatic and usual manual procedures

MARROWMATIC AUTOMATED METHOD

a

✓ Automated dissociation + filtration
✓ Defrustulation, disaggregation and clot rupture
✓ Standardized, reproducible cell suspension
✓ Ready for analysis

MESH (MANUAL) METHOD

b

✗ Manual pushing through mesh
✗ Variable pressure and technique
✗ Cell loss due to adherence to mesh
✗ Inconsistent results, variable yields
✗ Risk of clogging and sample loss
✗ Time consuming

NEEDLE (MANUAL) METHOD

c

✗ Manual pipetting through needle
✗ Shear stress and cell damage
✗ Clot fragments may remain
✗ Operator dependent results
✗ Needle clogging risk
✗ Time consuming and labor intensive

Advantage of MarrowMatic

✓ Operator Safety
No manual manipulation with needles or potentially dangerous devices.

✓ Time Saving
Sample preparation in about 1 minute, regardless of sample quality.

✓ Standardization
Unique, fully automated process produces a uniform product every time.

✓ Optimized Cell Recovery
Maximum and reproducible cell recovery without compromising viability.

✓ Prevents Technical Issues
Reduces cell aggregates that can cause problems in flow cytometry.

✓ Maintains Sterility
Sterile, single-use racks available for cytogenetics and cell culture applications.

1. Select the program: bone marrow aspiration or other type of sampling (fine needle aspiration/needle biopsy)

2. Place  the mother tube (A) in the designated rack slot and insert the special needle into the tube.

3. Insert the rack into the MarrowMatic and start the chosen procedure.

4. At the end of the procedure (about 1 minute), remove the rack from the

MarrowMatic and retrieve the daughter tube containing the de-stemmed and filtered sample (a cap for the daughter tube (B) is included with the rack).

5. Dispose of the used rack in the appropriate containers  provided by the laboratory for sharps and needles.
